Berlin detains German-Ukrainian woman for Russian espionage

In Germany, a spying scandal is worsening relations between Berlin and Moscow. Ilona W., a Berlin political networker, has been arrested for allegedly passing on German military information to Russia.

Berlin prosecutors say the German-Ukrainian woman passed on information on German‑Ukrainian defense talks and arms deliveries to a handler at the Russian embassy. Germany has expelled a diplomat, and two former army employees are also under investigation. Ilona W. faces up to ten years in prison.
